Himmel über Zürich

Fred, a Salvation Army officer, helps people on the edge of society in word and deed. His flock, however, homeless and marginalized people, are not entirely convinced by the Christian promise of salvation. The idea of happiness in the afterlife is met with wit and a skeptical mind. In "Heaven above Zürich", filmmaker Thomas Thümena dives into different realities of life in today's chic Zurich and creates a caring and socially-engaged portrait of the city - powerful images, emphatic, with strong protagonists and a lot of humor.

We shot Himmel über Zürich over the course of two years with a Sony FX6 - my favourite for documentary work. Additional cinematography by Otmar Schmid and Gabriela Betschard SCS.
